What is the FBI? The FBI is an intelligence-driven and threat-focused national security organization with both intelligence and law enforcement responsibilities.

The first FBI employees moved into the new Headquarters building on June 28, 1974. At that time, FBI Headquarters offices were housed in nine separate locations.
